Films of the week
The Great Outdoors (1988)
Writer John Hughes is known for many classic films from the 80's and 90's and The Great Outdoors is no exception. While perhaps not quite as iconic as some of his others (Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Home Alone), this still remains a great family movie. Also starring Dan Akroyd as the annoying brother in law, they both somehow end up in the same cabin as they both take vacation at the same time. The jokes are goofy and it's really got that family feel to it, great film to watch on a rainy Sunday.
Hustle (2022)
Adam Sandler plays basketball coach Stanley Sugarman who's dream is to find the next big NBA star. Hustle follows Stanley as he persues Bo Cruz (Juancho Hernangomez), a Spanish up and coming talent and the potential next big thing. This is a great performance from Sandler as he goes through all the motions in trying to coach Bo, with valuable lessons in family and trust.
Top Gun (1986)
The film that set Tom Cruise off on his phenomenol acting career, and made him the action star he is today. Top Gun was the biggest film of 1986, and with good reason.
Directed by Tony Scott and also starring Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis and Robert Duvall, the soundtrack alone is worth it.
Monty Python Life of Brian (1979)
