National Treasure Series Review

So..
So.. where do I start with this.
When it was first announced by Disney, I was excited to start watching National Treasure - Edge of History. The films which it is based off are brilliant and really capture that sense of adventure and treasure hunting.
From the information we had at the time we already knew that Cage wasn't going to be part of the TV series, and it will instead be lead by a younger cast who will be seeking the lost treasure. That was the news I didn't want to hear, although I wasn't surprised as Nicolas Cage isn't exactly known for being in TV series. Also not part of the series was any of Ben Gates' family, such as Patrick, Emily or even Abigail Chase.
We did get Riley Poole (Justin Bartha) in a cameo for one episode, and that was probably one of my favourites, which says it all really. Harvey Keitel makes a return as Sedusky, although now retired. His connection with the movies is important as is his grandson who plays a part in trying to find the lost treasure. Armando Riesco returns as one of the agents from the films working for Sedusky. He returns as Hendrix although there is more to his character than we originally thought we knew. This is a dramatic twist which makes you look at his character a lot differently, and the reveal that Hendrix is actually Salazar the whole time was a shock to everyone. He's been working for the FBI for the last 30 years and the entire time he's been double crossing his fellow agents, including his once boss Sedusky.
It was a surprise that I wasn't happy with, as you can now rewatch the films and look at everything and everyone in a completely different light, and that's not a good thing. It's great that we get some kind of National Treasure on our screens, even if it's a spin off that plays on the movies success. It does try to keep you enthralled with nostalgic nods to the films, such as the Meersham Pipe or the Benjamin Franklin specs used in the first film to see the map on the back of the Declaration of Independence.
The series even ended with the main Protagonist Jess and the love interest Liam, as they both say 'so'. Anyone who is a fan of the films knows that is Ben Gate's line to Abigail Chase at the end of Book of Secrets, which is cool I suppose.
