Mini Review - The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor review
When The Mummy released in 1999, it instantly became somewhat of a classic, and a faithful recreation of the 1932 original. It made Brendan Fraser a leading star, with his own take on an Indiana Jones style hero.
The sequel was overall a better film although the bad CGI for The Scorpion King really let it down. Everything about The Mummy Returns was bigger and better, with returning characters and the inclusion of Rick and Evelyn's son, Alex.
The Rock was the biggest wrestling star at the time, and decided to turn to acting. The Mummy Returns was Dwayne Johnson's film debut, although he and Brendan Fraser never actually filmed any scenes together due to The Rock being mostly CGI. With Imhotep returning and The Scorpion King, it was great that we had another antogonist and made for some great third act fight scenes, at one point there was three battles going on simultaneously. They built up the Anubis army to be a mighty sleeping giant waiting to be released, but the fight itself is very one sided, seemingly outnumbered, The Medjai seem to easily beating the ancient gods with their swords.
The sequel added more characters, and returning ones too.
