Disney's National Treasure TV series had an older rival, which puts it to shame..

The National Treasure films are iconic and are great adventure films which are still fun today. Fans of the films have long been wondering about whether a third film was going to happen, and especially if Nicolas Cage would return as treasure hunter Ben Gates.
After years of waiting Disney finally announced some news regarding the franchise, however it wasn't great news for people wanting a new National Treasure movie.
Disney announced a new TV series which would include a new, younger cast, and that Nicolas Cage would not return. Instead the series would follow young history enthusiast Jess (Lisette Olivera) as she uncovers more secrets of the past.
Joining her is Catherine Zeta-Jones as Billie Pearce, the 'other' person after the treasure. There is always someone else after the treasure, it's the axiom of treasure hunting (quote from Riley Poole in National Treasures Book of Secrets). Catherine Zeta-Jones puts in a great performance and is truly a great villain throughout, but even she couldn't save the series from cancellation. Yes, despite the wait for a new National Treasure, after only ten episodes the entire series got cancelled by Disney.
After watching all ten episodes I can say I wasn't too upset about this, and I say that as a huge fan of the films. I was disappointed to say the least with the first (and only) series, and I hope this is a lesson for Disney and they finally release a third movie, with the original cast.

Five years before the first National Treasure film, a TV series called Relic Hunters was released and followed the adventures of young Sydney Fox (Terra Carrera) and Nigel Bailey (Christien Anholt)
