National Treasure - The good and the bad

National Treasure
What ages the movie and the things that hold up today .

Things that age the movie

1.MSN?
Perhaps the thing that ages this film the most is the use of MSN. Patrick Gates casually watching the news on an MSN homepage will confirm that.

2. No camera on a cellphone
It was just before the era that span devices with cameras built in, so it's forgivable to the film that Abigail Chase doesn't have a camera on her flip phone, just when they need it.

3. Sean Bean and his blonde locks
A youthful looking Bean complete with flowing blonde locks and boyish good looks, not long after the bond villain era but pre Game of Thrones.

Things that hold up well today

1. Classic Nic Cage
Enough said

2. American history
As time goes on history will always be a vital part of any culture, and America is no different. National Treasure features many references to historical artifacts which are both interesting and educational.

3. The love interest and the sidekick
Two movie traits which continue to trend. The love interest in Abigail Chase and of course Ben's sidekick or assistant, Riley Poole. Riley is often hilarious and all three characters are vital towards the plot proving useful in their own areas of expertise.
