Stand By Me review

Directer - Rob Reiner
Released - 1986
Rating - 15
Stand By Me is a story about four boys who set out to find what they believe to be the body of Ray Brower the middle of the woods, after hearing a rumour that he was hit by a train. They set off on foot on a long journey to become 'heroes' and uncover what happened to him, and get there before anyone else. Gordie Lachance (Will Wheaten), Chris Chambers (River Phoenix), Teddy Duchamp (Corey Feldman) and Verne Tessio (Jerry O'Connell) all star as the four lifelong friends who set out on an adventure they surely won't forget.
Keifer Sutherland plays Ace, a tough and uncompromising leader of a small gang who also plays a part. He's friends with Chris Chamber's brother and their connection is important throughout the film.
Gordie lost his brother at a young age and looks up to his best friend Chris as figurehead now that he's gone.
One of the film's characteristics is it's soundtrack which is very fitting for the era, set in the 50's.
Stand By Me still holds up as a classic in its own right and stands apart from anything else. Stephen King has described it as a masterpiece by Reiner and one of his favourite adaptations. The pacing, directing style and even the soundtrack are all brilliantly done to bring together a great story of friendship, courage and togetherness.
