Brendan Fraser is back on the big screen

Return of a legend

Ah Brendan Fraser, he seemed to be on the big screen so much in the 90's and early 00's. We had some great films such as George of the Jungle (1997), Blast From The Past (1999) and Journey to the centre of the earth (2008). It was sad to see the sudden disappearance of this once great actor, and I knew he was due a comeback soon. So when the news reached that Brendan Fraser was back on the big screen, and in a Martin Scorsese film too, I was thrilled. Fraser has landed a part in Scorsese's new film Killers of the Flower Moon, a sequel to Netflix's The Irishman (2019).
Talk about a comeback, Scorsese is one of cinemas most influential directors and he'll be working alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.

One of my favourite films growing up was The Mummy Returns, and one of the reasons for this was this man and his portrayal of fictional hero Rick O'Connell. He really brought this character to life with Fraser's personality and enthusiasm, his all round performance was sensational and was part of what made The Mummy films as popular as they now are. In fact The Mummy films always had a good cast and included some big names such as Rachel Weisz, Arnold Vosloo and even Jet Li in Tomb of the Dragon Emporer (2008). The last film on The Mummy franchise is often touted as the worst, with not even Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh being able to save it. The film came across as a bad cash-in sequel and was made worse when Rachel Weisz decided not to return as Librarian Evie O'Connell. She was replaced completely by Maria Bello and the film just lacked that spark the previous films had, that connection between the actors just wasn't there. While the third Mummy film wasn't exactly terrible (it had some good moments), the weak story, characters and lack of presence of some, like Ardeth Bay the sword weilding Mejia. Even the setting of ancient China just wasn't the same as Egyptian culture and mummies, it just didn't have that mummy feel the other two had.
