Slutchers Lane walk
Hiding just around the corner from the town centre of Warrington are many hidden walks to experience during this pandemic.
During a quiet Friday evening I decided to take a stroll down Slutchers Lane, where the bridge leads towards the Speed Karting building and the train yard. It must have been around 6pm and it was pitch black, the roads on this particular stretch have no lights and is lit up mainly from the very few surrounding buildings and the distant lights as you approach the train yard.
Not many people are about down this part of town as the road is blocked off half way down (it was due to open in December last year) and as it stands its like a ghost town at the moment.
It anyone is to take up this walk I recommend coming here in the daytime as it is very hard to see when it goes dark, even in the daytime I would advise bringing someone along as it is still quiet during working hours. The businesses along this road are mostly open but depending on which side of the road block they are situated would determine which route to take to work, as there have been diversions as they continue to make it a through road from Chester Road to Wilson Patten Street.
On this Friday evening I was casually walking down toward the train yard with my friend, with the intention of going under the low bridge and to the back of the Speed Karting building and then back the way we came. However, upon encountering the bridge we noticed it was completely flooded, although we couldn't see how deep it was it was definitely too risky to walk through, especially since we had inappropriate footwear for any amount of water let alone a flood.
Whilst we were stuck with no choice but to turn around, we managed to get some pretty good photos of this strange and eery part of town. This includes the train yard which is essentially like a graveyard for trains, but makes for some good photographs. The best type of picture in my opinion includes the night sky and the stars in the background, and I tried to capture some good photos with this in mind. Below is one of the many photos I took, although it was too cloudy to get a decent shot of the night sky (maybe next time).
